A Pig, A Dog, and Some Marshmallows: Pig Tales Part 3

For Christmas one year, I wrote my kids a little book called Pig Tales, which chronicled all of their adventures with their pet pigs: Arnold and Tillie. I realized the stories were too much fun not to share, so I thought I would share them here in a blog series. If you would like to follow along, please subscribe!

Arnold was a people pig from the beginning. Whenever he saw one of us, he would rush over to the fence and throw his trotters up on the wooden planks and squeal. He loved his new family of people, but he wasn’t at all sure about the big yellow dog named Frank that lived with them. He seemed friendly, but he was so much bigger than the tiny orange pig.

It was summer, and we loved to roast marshmallows at the fire pit in the back yard. When we did this, we would buckle Arnold into his harness and take him on a walk to explore the yard. Frank would come out in the backyard on his lead wire too. But when Frank would come to sniff Arnold, Arnold would get scared and run behind Mabel’s legs.

From behind Mabel’s legs, he saw a curious thing. Brent was standing by the fire with a bag of marshmallows. When Frank saw this, he ran over, sat down, and held out his paw for a treat. Brent gave him a marshmallow and he gobbled it up. Arnold was curious. He trotted over and sat down and looked up at Brent. Brent gave Arnold a sweet square of gooey yumminess. Arnold loved marshmallows. As it turns out, he liked Frank too.
